Durtnell was appointed to carry out internal and external refurbishment of a concrete framed residence constructed during the 1960’s. In addition the contract included the construction of a three-storey steelwork and structural glass extension at the back of the house.
This project was inspired by the ‘round houses’ of Ethiopia and based on an ‘S’ shape, joining two circular areas by a central curving corridor, wrapped in a frameless glass façade. We also constructed a glass enclosure on the upper floor that forms a spectacular dining area with panoramic views over the estuary, and an externally mounted scenic glass lift provides access to all floors.
The team raised the roof of the swimming pool by 500mm, and replaced the solid walls of the pool area with glass panels. A magnificent hot tub produced by the Durtnell Joinery Mill was also installed.
