Demolition work has commenced at £4m scheme in Radlett Place, London. Working with SHH Architects the project entails the demolition of an existing house and the construction of a two storey basement of approximately 2,322m2. The basement will provide accommodation for a swimming pool with sunken courtyard, a gym / dance room, massage room, wine cellar and wine lounge, cinema and art store, stairs, lifts, water storage tanks and plant rooms, laundry room and commercial kitchen.
The demolition of the existing house has commenced and we have discovered live services in the garage and asbestos within the boiler room so these need to be removed to allow the demolition to complete. During the period three London plane trees have been protected and will continue to be protected for the duration of the works.
All rubble from the demolition is being crushed and will be re-used on site for piling mat.
Contiguous piles of approximately 17-18 metres high will be used in the basement construction, along with in situ concrete walls and waterproofing. Works also include earth bonding, lightening protection and the installation of a ground source heat pump.
