With the box office area recently handed over in the refurbished ground floor of the Gulbenkian Theatre, the new music facility at the University of Kent is not far behind. The new Colyer Fergusson Hall (£5.4m) provides a performing space for both singing and instrumental music. Retractable theatre style seating has been installed as well as the latest technology in the form of lighting and sound equipment. The hall benefits from an abundance of natural light from both large windows and a sky light.
As well as a large hall the new building boats a welcoming open plan reception area that spans the length of the building, there are band and practice rooms with acoustic panels and heavily insulated walls to prevent sound escaping. Further facilities include classrooms, offices and toilets.
The building will be handed over in October with performances taking place from November onwards.
